Finding a gift for a gardener is harder than it looks. Most of the obvious options end up in the shed, unused. For a birthday or a thank you, a single well-made tool or a book tends to land better than a bundle of bits. If a gardener already owns everything, the best gift is usually something they use up: good twine, seed packets for a variety they would not buy themselves, a candle for the potting shed.
